Mark Fargo

Poems

Before Mark Fargo became a solo motorcyclist, he was a beat poet, a la Jack Kerouac, Ginsberg, and others. He wrote in the beat genre but made sure he wasn’t writing to anyone’s lane. He read poetry in public for many years before he hit the pavement at 60 years old to create Lobo Solitario, his alter ego motorcycle version of himself. I began writing haiku when two Japanese exchange students suggested that Haiku poetry would complement my photography.

Who says old dogs can’t learn from those they taught? In 2017, Ventura was hit hard with the Thomas Fire, which caused massive destruction and loss of lives and homes. The following fall, a major rain season caused massive floods and destruction, once again causing more damage beyond anyone’s expectations. California has been a fire hazard state for over ten years now, as all the invasive brush has not been addressed, and nefarious-minded people have contributed to this condition. This poem, which I wrote in this collective and eclectic collaboration, was written about the Camp Fire in Paradise, California, where the whole town was burnt down, much like the recent Pacific Palisades fire in Southern California. A second Beat book will be out later this fall.
