Over six decades of fighting peacefully for what was right
taking a baton to the head was just the start
not knowing if this was he last day on earth
crossing that bridge facing a wall of ignorance and hate

he learned the message of equality for all of God’s children
always marching to the beat of the same drummer
the drummer of equality, love and peace

He never advocated violence as a means to a end
addressed his opponents with respect even though he disagreed
message always how this change was necessary
earned not given to and coming from the right place
